Our Boathouse

    The Boathouse

    Our boathouse was first built in 1833 by John Peard. The boathouse is currently shared with St John's, who occupy the right hand side of the boathouse.

    Most mornings, you can find our wonderful boatman, Jim Ronaldson, here. No boat-related problem or damage is ever too much for Jim, who maintains our boats to make sure they are in the best condition possible. He is often accompanied by his dog too!

    The lower part of the boathouse stores our boats. On the right hand side we have our Eights;

    Robert Newman (Men's First Eight)

    David Radcliffe (Women's First Eight)

    Paralos (Men's Second Eight)

    Leo Sharpston (Women's Second Eight)

    We also have an Eight kept in the Boathouse for the members of St Benet's Hall/Reuben.

    On the left hand side we keep our blades and our smaller boats. We have two fours, a double/pair, and two singles. Our boats' names are;

    George Best (stern-loaded four)

    Bill Morris (bow-loaded four)

    Ann Colbourne (double/pair)

    Although we are a small college we have some of the finest boats and equipment on the River Isis. This is not possible without our generous alumni and the Radcliffe Fund which allow us to purchase and use the very best boats.

    The upstairs of the boathouse is home to our ergs and weights. We have our ergs in the historic front room which looks out over the River Isis and is home to the various captains, secretary, and president boards. We also have a selection of commemorative oars on displayed which chart the various successes of the Boat Club across its entire history.

    We also have our bar just behind which is always put to good use on the final day of Torpids and Eights!

    We have our roof too where many spectators gather on to watch the racing and where the loudest cheers on the river can be heard from.
